My wife and I were looking for a modern, energy-efficient home. After a lot of research, there was little to be found and what was available was outrageously expensive - certainly out of our budget. So we decided to build it ourselves.
I had no previous experience in this, so I started teaching myself 3D modeling software and the very basics of architecture - mainly online and with books. Because of how rudimentary my design skills were, I just kept everything as simple as possible (basic shapes, simple floorplans, compact plumbing design...) which, looking back, made everything easier: engineering, permitting, construction... everything.
Those simple design principles are also instilled in Sunia Homes. Overall, our philosophy is to sell homes that are modern, energy-efficient and affordable. We want to give homeowners the tools to be more self-sufficient which is why solar panels (photovoltaics), rainwater harvesting and greywater systems come standard. We even include a custom vegetable garden.
