The Mckinley house, named after it's street location in Venice was designed and built by the Architect for his own family. Build originally on a single 40x90 lot, in 1995, the project expanded in 2002 onto an adjacent parcel. The project is a laboratory for the early ideas about sustainable California Living and explores innovative materials and sustainable systems.The home has been featured on (2)covers of Dwell and has been widely published internationally. The house is often used as a location for Film, TV and print and is well known as the "Californication House" for is extensive use in the TV series of the same name.

The work of David Hertz FAIA Architect and his firm S.E.A. The Studio of Environmental Architecture is well known as pioneers in sustainable architecture that thinks well outside the box. The award winning work has been widely exhibited and published internationally. David Hertz is one of the youngest Architect's to be elected to the college of Fellows of the American Institute of Architecture for his contributions to the profession. The Mckinley Residence was featured on (2) covers of Dwell magazine and his recently completed 747 Wing House a home in Malibu made from the wings of a 747 was selected as a 2012 Record House for Architectural Record Magazine.
